Hello there and thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Tess Jacobsen and I’m the face behind Oceans Unknown.

I can’t remember a time I haven’t been traveling. Even as a young child my family would go on road trips all over the Midwest, nearly every week. I went on my first solo trip at the age of 15. That travel itch never faded and 16 years and 15+ countries later I still experience fernweh way more than I ever experienced home-sickness.

My skills as a photographer have also taken a bit longer to develop. I finally decided after my third international trip I wanted to document the places I was traveling and take photos that I would be proud to hang on my wall and decorate my house with. The intervening years have been spent learning my style, making mistakes, and continuously building my knowledge.

When I’m not traveling, I love to spend time with my three “kids:” CreamPuff (horse), Moon (dog), and Kobutsu (cat) and explore my beautiful home in the Pacific Northwest.
